The Week of February 28, 2010

MONDAY—EVANGELISTIC PRAYER

Chronological Reading: Numbers 31-33 + Mark 6:1-28
Monday, March 1, 2010

Nehemiah 9:20 Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.

Holy Father:
How common is my sin of forgetting the Holy Spirit! Give me your good Spirit, and make even me a powerful preacher and persuasive proponent of the cross. It is only your good Spirit that can break granite hearts.
HE IS GOOD ESSENTIALLY, because his essence is Holy, Holy, Holy. I need him now, because he is unmixed purity and truth and grace.
HE IS GOOD BENEVOLENTLY, because he bears my waywardness tenderly. He strives with all rebellious wills; that is why I know I can trust him to make a way for the gospel to others today. Good Spirit, quicken ________ and ________ from their death in trespasses and sins. Then let me disciple them and train them for service. How generous, forgiving, and tender this good Spirit is!
HE IS GOOD OPERATIVELY; all his works are good. All your providences are good to me, even the roughest. You suggest good thoughts and ways of escape from temptation. You prompt good actions and reveal good truths. You apply good promises and assist me in good accomplishments. You lead me into the best result always, and there is no spiritual good in all the world of which you are not the author and sustainer. Heaven itself wears your perfect character.
HE IS GOOD OFFICIALLY, as Comforter and Quickener, Instructor and Intercessor, Guide and Sanctifier. Everything you do leads me to the highest good. I yield to your influence today. Help me be more aware of your movements. Good Spirit, give me impulses and motivation to do good. I need your power, and I wait on it now in prayer. Help me seek your aid and never grieve you today. Do it for Jesus whom you seek to glorify in me. Amen.

TUESDAY— CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY

Chronological Reading: Numbers 34-36 + Mark 6:29-56
Tuesday, March 2, 2010

John 13:5 After that he poureth water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

O Gracious Lord and Master:
You bathed us once-for-all in the sin-removing flow of Christ’s blood. You washed us in the waters of regeneration. But now wash us as to our feet in our Summit services this week. Oh, for daily cleansing!
Do you see any fault in us? We know you do. Wash us so we can be clean. Are we deficient in any aspect of your image? Supply it so we can exhibit more perfect character to the glory of the One who made us new in Jesus. Maybe we do have something good, but yet it is carried to extremes. Modify it so no one single virtue murders another. You washed the disciples’ feet of old; still be very patient towards us. Our faults surely provoke you, but go on with us we pray, until your great work is completed and we are like Christ!
We want to conquer self in every aspect—as a body as well as individuals. Make us content with what you give us. Grant us gratitude for all you do. Let us live for the glory of God, and exist for the good of others.
Enable us especially to overcome the flesh with all its affections and lusts. May our bodies be kept under, subject to the higher spiritual priority of your mission. Let no appetite of any kind prevail against any one of us, lest Christ be dishonored and our church be unclean. Do not even let the most refined attributes of the natural man come so far forward that they mar the domination of the Spirit of God in our midst. Keep our candlestick burning.
Help us not be so easily moved, even by pain. Give us much more patience. Do not let us fear. Give your Holy Spirit true mastery of our lives, our hopes, our homes, and our plans. Grant it for Jesus’ sake and glory. Amen.

WEDNESDAY—REVIVAL PRAYING

Chronological Reading: Deuteronomy 1-3 + Mark 7
Wednesday, March 3, 2010

1 John 1:3-4  That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

O Righteous Father:
I praise you that the faith you give me is a door a door through which all the glory that dwelt between the cherubim can fill the secret places of my heart. Give me a faith that deadens me to sin, and lifts me high up above this world’s delights. May your holy purposes lay hold of my humble ministry, and cause the insignificant and small to be glorified by the infinite and the eternal.
You are the God of truth; keep me as your lamb from poisonous pastures of error
You are the God of light; make my life a transcript of your will
You are the God of all grace, making me “accepted in the Beloved”
2 Pet. 1:1  Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
The precious faith you give is the root of all my virtues, the channel of my communion with you, the weapon of choice for the battle ahead, the shield of safety when attacked, the evidence of eternity in my soul, and the passport to revival. Grant me more of this incalculably precious faith.
Come Holy Spirit and set my heart on fire! Express through me the thunders of praise for the incomparable blessings in Christ and the triumphing greatness of your power. Make me an appropriate vessel for witnessing to someone who is lost today. Increase my capacity so I can increase your glory. So I ask it for Jesus’ worthy sake. Amen.

A DAILY PATTERN FOR PRAYER & BIBLE READING

Chronological Reading: Deuteronomy 4-6 + Mark 8
Thursday, March 4, 2010

1 Peter 1:7-8  That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

DO not I love Thee, O my Lord? Behold my heart and see;
And turn each cursèd idol out, that dares to rival Thee.
Is not Thy Name melodious still to mine attentive ear?
Doth not each pulse with pleasure bound my Savior’s voice to hear?

Hast Thou a lamb in all Thy flock I would disdain to feed?
Hast Thou a foe, before whose face I fear Thy cause to plead?
Would not mine ardent spirit vie with angels round the throne,
To execute Thy sacred will, and make Thy glory known?

Thou know’st I love Thee, dearest Lord, but O, I long to soar
Far from the sphere of mortal joys, and learn to love Thee more!

—Philip Doddridge, 1755

FRIDAY—FOCUS ON CHRIST’S LIFE

Chronological Reading: Deuteronomy 7-9 + Mark 9:1-25
Friday, March 5, 2010

John 7:37  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

Fairest Lord Jesus:
I PRAY TO EXPRESS PATIENCE. Jesus, you pleaded with the Jews even to the last hour. And heavenly Father I intercede with you, waiting for you to be gracious in revival. I thirst. Lord, give us to drink. I thank you that I am in the hand of mercy because of your longsuffering towards me.
I PRAY TO EXPRESS PITY. Jesus, you cried, implying not only the loudness of your voice but also the tenderness of your tones. Help me to similarly implore others to be reconciled to God, as though God did beg them by me. Give me a deep love to weep over the lost until their hearts are made willing by my cries.
I PRAY BECAUSE OF YOUR PROVISION. Jesus, you provide exactly what will quench a soul’s thirst. Your sacrifice can bring peace to any guilty conscience. Your truth brings spiritual nutrition. Soul-thirst is terrible, but you can remove it. Restore our souls in revival!
I PRAY AS A PROCLAMATION. Jesus, you welcomed any man who was thirsty. No other distinction is made except that of thirst. Lead me to some truly thirsty souls today, who do not want to argue or be contentious, but really want to know how to be saved. Some have a thirst for greed; some for advancement; some for pleasure or entertainment; some for knowledge; some for love; some for recognition; some for rest because they suffer. Give them a thirst for you!
I PRAY BECAUSE OF YOUR PERSON. Jesus, the sinner must come to you and not to a ritual or a religious ceremony. You bear our sins in your body, yourself on the tree. That is the star of hope to all who are lost in darkness. Drinking is the reception of the water of life, and anyone can drink. Let someone do so today!

SATURDAY—IN THE PSALMS

Chronological Reading: Deuteronomy 10-12 + Mark 9:26-50
Saturday, March 6, 2010

Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

Oh, My Father:
You are far more to me than all the wealth, honor, and peace I have so often envied in unbelievers. Help me empty myself of earthly desires so I can be filled with you! No longer let my wishes wander. No longer let my attention stray. Be my all in all.
My flesh and my heart have failed me. My body cannot keep up with my spiritual desires. My heart is deceitful and often leads me astray. But you have never failed me, and never could. Be my protection and joy today. Keep my heart by divine love. Give me the right love for the right things and the right people at the right time. Make it a holy love that never succumbs to sin. Drive sinful desires far out to sea. Replace them with the fruit of your Spirit.
There is nothing desirable except you. This is what will set my heart on a correct course. If I think I don’t really believe that, then let me state it by faith and pray for you to help mine unbelief. All other things are lesser things. Let my heart abide alone in you who abides forever.
I need to live near you. To follow afar off leads to being caught up in sin. Help me keep Christ at the center, since I profess to be your servant. You require spiritual purity; give it to me by your pure Spirit.
The nearer I am to you, the less I am affected by distractions. Attractions of earth grow strangely dim in the light of your glory and grace. Access to your presence through prayer is a marvelous cure for a multitude of sins. I approach you as the source of all good. Grant me strength by your grace. Be my portion forever, through Jesus my Lord. Amen.

Week 34

The glass company has almost all the windows installed, with just the round ones on the south to go. KCP&L finished hooking up the power to the transformer on Wednesday afternoon. The roofer has not been able to finish the two smaller roofs on the west side because of the weather; they are working on them today. Another crew has put some insulation in the outside walls. The plumber has the gas line to the roof top units and had it inspected by the city. A large delivery of sheet rock was made on Wednesday as they get ready to rock the outside walls. The sheet metal firm started the metal cladding on the west side by the entry.
