MONDAY—EVANGELISTIC PRAYER

59 Days of Prayer: Team members for China trip, July 31-Aug 13
Monday, February 8, 2010

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Lord, forgive my sins for the sake of that love which you bear for your own Son, and for the sake of the love that your Son bears to you. Do it for the sake of his humiliation, when he took-on flesh himself, that he might look like a sinner and be made my sacrifice, though he himself was free from all sin. Do it for the sake of his perfect but painful obedience in all things, which gave complete honor to your law. Do it for the sake of the curse he bore and the death he suffered, which has glorified your authority and honored your justice more than my sins offended them.
Remember his dying groans. Remember his agonies when the hour of darkness was on him. So let not the powers of darkness prevail over me, as I trust in him. Remember the day when you stood afar off from your Son and he cried out as one forsaken by God. Let me have your everlasting presence with me and never let me be forsaken by you, since your Son has borne that grief.
Again, I plead the intercession of Jesus my High Priest above. Lord I would ask you for nothing less than Jesus is already asking on my behalf. I would willingly request for souls of __________ and __________ in salvation! Look only on the Lamb, as he had been slain, in the midst of the throne. Look on his pure and perfect righteousness Lord, and not on my wickedness. Look on that blood, with which my High Priest entered into the highest heaven. Bestow every blessing on me that his blood purchased, and that the great and infinite Petitioner pleads for at your right hand of power and skill. What can you deny your Son? He told us you hear him always. For the sake of the Son of your love, deny me not your grace to witness to others this week. Amen.

TUESDAY— CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY

59 Days of Prayer: N. American Missionaries: Abraham, Anderson, Weston, etc.
Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Matthew 9:29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

Great and Glorious Father of Love:
Bless our church. Give us more faith. Make our prayers salted with faith. When our pastors preach, let them preach in faith. May all that is done in our fellowship be done by unity in Christ and simple confidence in God.
We know if we do not believe we will never be stable. We can expect to see no result from our ministries unless it is done in faith. Give the thousands of members of our church the childlike simplicity that never thinks about doubting God. Make us go forward, with all weaknesses made strong by the strength of Jesus Christ.
Give a blessing to the missionaries we support abroad. Give us growth in our spiritual lives. Lift us to a higher level. Bring us out of the mists of doubt and fear, to climb the heights of our security in Christ and oneness with him. Grant this faith to our entire church body.
Titus 1:1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
We talk about the lost and how they need faith, but the lost will be brought in and people will be saved when we Christians believe our God more! Make us in this church believe you more. Your mission will be accomplished and your glory made visible to the community as soon as we have the confidence we ought to have in you. You are worthy. You ought to be trusted. We ought to be moving forward in the mission.
Accept this feeble request by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Send a shower of revival in our midst. Let us give more glory to you, and never be distrustful in any painful circumstance. To Jesus’ glory we ask it. Amen.

WEDNESDAY—REVIVAL PRAYING

59 Days of Prayer: The Summit: Day breakout session speakers & attendees
Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

Oh Lord:
Some duties are ones that arise out of this hour. Wake me Lord, from the sleep of inactivity. Let not my Christianity consist all the time of receiving, and doing nothing. Help me Holy Spirit, to gird up my loins and yield my body to you as a living sacrifice.
Revival will let me leave apathy and lethargy behind. Morning is coming; I need to be ready. It is high time I awoke out of half-heartedness. Moreover, it is time to stop dreaming. Help me live for eternal realities that are present even today. Help me put forth all my power and arouse all my energy for you.
After I wake up I need to throw off my nightclothes. I need to put off everything that once covered me when I was in darkness. I need to undress so I can start to dress-up. I have so many sins and foolish habits that need to be thrown off! I cannot profess to be saved just by putting new religion over my old nature. No, I have to cast off the sinner before I can call myself a saint.
I still have too many rags of corruption rotting under my raiment of profession. Lord, you did not come to save me in my sins, but from my sins! I cannot believe in Christ and continue in an unclean life. Give me holiness by your Holy Spirit in revival! I will have no victory unless you give me more grace. Take away the love of sin so I can put on the robe of Christ.
The danger is not over—I need my armor. Darkness is departing but I still need my armor. The sooner I wake up, the more I need my armor, for the day of battle is come. Dress me according to what I will meet with today. I am not home yet. Revive me even in enemy territory because Jesus has won it for me. Amen.

A DAILY PATTERN FOR PRAYER & BIBLE READING

59 Days of Prayer: Hispanic Ministry: leadership, to be one in ministry
Thursday, February 11, 2010

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

I WOULD be true, for there are those who trust me;
I would be pure, for there are those who care;
I would be strong, for there is much to suffer;
I would be brave, for there is much to dare;
I would be brave, for there is much to dare.

I would be friend of all—the foe, the friendless;
I would be giving, and forget the gift;
I would be humble, for I know my weakness;
I would look up, and laugh, and love and lift.
I would look up, and laugh, and love and lift.

I would be faithful through each passing moment;
I would be constantly in touch with God;
I would be strong to follow where He leads me;
I would have faith to keep the path Christ trod;
I would have faith to keep the path Christ trod.

—Howard A. Walter, 1906

FRIDAY—FOCUS ON CHRIST’S LIFE

59 Days of Prayer: Church-wide Event: Adult Sports Leagues
Friday, February 12, 2010

Mark 3:5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

Merciful and Loving Lord:
Six times in the Old Testament you told Aaron or Moses to stretch forth his hand in judgment against the Egyptians. A seventh time you told Joshua to stretch forth his hand in destruction of Ai. But now, look at the incredible mercy of the Son of God! Angry at the cold callous hearts of the religious shepherds of the nation, you commanded a man to stretch forth thine hand, not in judgment but in healing. And what you did for him you were willing to do for the entire nation.
How much I am like that man! I am powerless, but faith brings its own ability with it. Lord, teach me. The Christian life is this series of paradoxes. My withered, paralyzed hand—I still have to obediently stretch it forth, remembering
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
I can do nothing, and yet if I believe on Jesus Christ I can do everything you command. My faith is stretched—along with my withered hand.
It is not only an act of faith, but an act of decision. “Is it wrong to heal on the Sabbath? What say you with the withered hand over there? If you agree with the Pharisees you will refuse to stretch forth your hand. But if you agree with me you will do in my strength what you cannot do in your own.”
That is why so much of my prayer needs to be confession—confession and affirmation of what I am determined to do by your all-sufficient grace. Let me be your witness, even as withered and worthless as I am. Sink or swim, live or die, I hold up my hand. Here am I, send me! If I perish I will still cling to the cross of my Jesus. Amen.

SATURDAY—IN THE PSALMS

59 Days of Prayer: High School: students to fall in deeply in love with God
Saturday, February 13, 2010

Psalm 18:32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

God My Strength:
Your warriors should expect to taste every form of fighting. By the power of faith let me conduct myself like a good soldier and then lay all the laurels at your feet. The trophies of my conflicts I dedicate to you and ascribe all glory and strength to you. In you I find rest and refuge. In Christ I find the war is already won, and your Spirit is given to make the battle complete.
Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
You have equipped me with the armor of light. I pray for my brethren in our church, and those we sent out, near and far. Make us more than conquerors over sin today, undefeated in battle and unwearied in our daily walk. Preserve us all from slipping, and make us stand on the rocks of affliction by your preserving mercy and sufficient grace. If we had fallen, our cry would have been terrific. Since we stand firm, let our praise be equally fervent and frequent.
Psalm 18:46 The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.
Internal strife is hard to deal with. A civil war is the worst kind of fight; I know it to be true inside myself. My sins are entrenched in impregnable strong holds. Drive them out by the sanctifying energy of the Holy Ghost so I can serve you in singleness of heart. Give me peace in the three kingdoms of my body, my soul and my spirit. Give me gratitude for the unity in our church. You are the ground of my hope, so you are the subject of my praise.
Revelation 1:5 Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
All glory, laud and honor be to you. Amen.

It is week 40 of construction and we are still struggling to get the building enclosed. We have 2 of the 5 roof sections 98% complete, 1 at 60% and 2 smaller roof sections on the west side yet to do. This will keep the rain and snow going down the drains in the 3 areas and not into the building. The glass contractor had problems getting the glass in the correct sizes. We have all the high glass sections in but the entry area and side windows are still not complete. They hope to have a new shipment on Monday to correct the problem. With the large roof sections being 98% complete more of the work inside can continue but we still need it to be completed so we can turn some heat on inside the building. We need to continue to pray for weather that will allow the roof work to be completed and that we get the glass that we need.

MONDAY—EVANGELISTIC PRAYER

59 Days of Prayer: Team members for Taiwan trip, July 1-16
Monday, February 1, 2010

Psalm 45:8 All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

Loving Savior:
Am I so privileged as to make you glad? But how is this possible? You make me glad, but how can I make you glad?
SURELY, BY MY LOVE. It is so cold and so weak today. I sorrowfully confess it is way too small, but I praise you that it is sweet to you.
Song of Solomon 4:10 How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!
I thank you for delighting in my love, feeble as it is. Help me love you more. How can I make you glad today?
SURELY, BY MY PRAISE. It is not just the song of my lips, but the melody of my heart that you desire. My gratitude brings you gladness. Let me be more grateful. How else can I make you glad?
SURELY, BY MY TESTIMONY. By my witness to __________ and __________ of your dying love and free grace. Somebody ought to testify—Lord give me the boldness and let it be me! To bring someone else to you is more acceptable than anything else I could bring. How can I make you glad?
SURELY, BY HOLINESS. By setting myself apart for your purposes. By consecrating my life today to your mission. Help me forgive my enemy, for that makes you glad. Help me give you money cheerfully, for that makes you glad. Help me lead others to Christ and see souls saved, for that makes you glad. If I proclaim your gospel I am a sweet savor to you. Let me lift up the cross today, because that brings you honor. It is in my power even now to break the alabaster box of praise. Thank you Lord, for your wonderful mercies. Amen.

TUESDAY— CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY

59 Days of Prayer: Culture of Prayer: First Tuesday Prayer tonight
Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Romans 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth.
Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
O Lord Our Father:
Give us a complete conquest of self. Especially do this: make us deaf to our own praises, but also not too sensitive to criticism. Let us decide this: to have the approval of God and a clear conscience is enough to keep us going. And make us content, gracious Lord! Save us from that discontent that is such a manifestation of distrust in you. Release us from becoming a slave to change.
Those that we love, if they do not love us, may we love them none the less. If by mistake they misjudge us, save us from hard feelings toward them. And God grant that we might never misjudge one another.
James 5:9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
Make us like little children who do not know now, but know they will know one day in the future, and so are content just to trust in the parent and believe things they do not understand. For love,
1 Corinthians 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Lord, keep us humble, dependent, and yet peaceful and rejoicing.
Psalm 131:2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.
Yet make us zealous and active. Oh Savior, make us like yourself! We do not want to do so much, but to be so conformed. The conforming only comes through transforming, so work that in our midst! Because if you will make us be right, we will do right. Sweet Spirit work among us these things. Amen.

WEDNESDAY—REVIVAL PRAYING

59 Days of Prayer: LifeTrac classes & new Ministry Fellowships Mar 21
Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Psalm 44:1 We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

Let what God has done suggest a prayer that he would repeat the like signs and wonders among us. What would my heart feel if I could just believe that there were some who would pray for revival—persons whose faith is large enough and their love fiery enough to lead them—from this moment on—to exercise unceasing intercessions that God would appear among us and do wondrous things here, as in the times of old.
Shall I give you yet another reason why you should pray? There are men and women who have trembled (and they know they have), but yet shook off their fears and once more are daring their destiny, turning away from the gates of heaven, and running post-haste to the doors of hell. Will you not stretch out your hands to God to stop them in this desperate decision?
I have a heart to pray for those of you who are never affected, or who still quench the Spirit of God. I have done my utmost in preaching. Will not you come to the help of the Lord against the enemy, by prayer? Will not your prayers accomplish that which my preaching fails to do? Here they are; I commend them to you: men and women whose hearts refuse to melt, whose stubborn knees will not bend; I give them up to you and ask you to pray for them. Carry their cases on your knees before God.
We do not know what God may do for us if we do but pray for a blessing! Let us agonize and wrestle in prayer. Meet in your houses, go to your private room, be instant, be earnest, in season and out of season. All the stories we have heard should correct any self-dependence that may have crept into our treacherous hearts. It is not in us to do this but God must do it all.
—C.H. Spurgeon, Sermon No. 263: The Story of God’s Mighty Acts

A DAILY PATTERN FOR PRAYER & BIBLE READING

59 Days of Prayer: Hispanic Ministry Team: Trailwoods PreK-8
Thursday, February 4, 2010

Matthew 14:33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

PRAISE Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer!
Sing, O Earth, His wonderful love proclaim!
Hail Him! hail Him! highest archangels in glory;
Strength and honor give to His holy Name!

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer!
For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died.
He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
Hail Him! hail Him! Jesus the Crucified.

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer!
Heav’nly portals loud with hosannas ring!
Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever.
Crown Him! Crown Him! Prophet, and Priest, and King!
Christ is coming! over the world victorious,
Pow’r and glory unto the Lord belong.

Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness.
Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!

—Fanny Crosby, 1869

FRIDAY—FOCUS ON CHRIST’S LIFE

59 Days of Prayer: Church-wide Event: Youth League and Soccer
Friday, February 5, 2010

Isaiah 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Interceding Savior:
The cry of the Moravian missionary was, “May the Lamb that was slain receive the reward of His suffering.” By your death you provided everything necessary for my salvation, but by your continued life you apply the provision you made in your death. You live on purpose to see all the blessings and privileges you purchased on the tree brought home and enjoyed by me (because you died in my place).
If you did not still live for me, your death would be a miscarriage. You would have begun the work and provided all the materials for its completion, but there would be no one to make those resources available, and to complete the temple whose foundation was laid in so costly a price. I am pardoned by your death, but I am justified by your resurrection. I am saved because you died, but that salvation is brought-home and secured because you sit on the right hand of the throne of the Father and continually make intercession, praying for me.
Help me today make as much of your life as I ever have of your death. I sat down at Calvary, wondering at your heart’s blood poured out for my redemption—love written in streams of crimson. But let me sit now at the foot of your throne, a throne of grace, and see how you spend your glorified life in intercession for me. Prayer for one purpose: so I can preach your gospel to others. You are ever living to apply with your own hands what you purchased by the nailing of those hands and the piercing of your heart on the cross.
Thank you Jesus, for the supplication you make for me. Let me not be silent for you, so that you might receive the reward of your suffering. Amen.

SATURDAY—IN THE PSALMS

59 Days of Prayer: Career Class: intimacy with God; God’s power over all
Saturday, February 6, 2010

Psalm 38:4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

O Lord My God:
My sorrows are such that they overpress me, and endanger my dishonoring your name and your gospel. My pains and my weaknesses hinder me from your service, and I feel like I am rendered useless on the earth. They have already been continuing so long that I fear my flesh will not be able to hold out, nor my spirit able to bear up, if your hand abide thus heavy upon me.
If this sin be not subdued in me, or that temptation be not removed, I fear I will be turned-aside from the paths of righteousness and let go of my hope.
For your mercy’s sake O Lord, save me from sin. Your lovingkindness is infinite. Let this infinite lovingkindness be displayed in my deliverance. You are wise O God, and though my haters are crafty, you can disappoint their devices.
You know how, by your wondrous counsels, to turn my sorrows into joy. You can find a way for my relief when all people stand afar off, and say they see no way to help me. You are almighty and all-sufficient. Your presence can suppress my fears immediately, vanquish the tempter, break the power of darkness to pieces, release me from the bondage of my corruption, and bring me into the glorious liberty of the children of God. You are just and righteous and will not let the enemy oppress me forever. You are sovereign and all things are at your command. You can say to pains and diseases, Go, or Come.
Speak therefore your word of healing and my flesh and my soul will praise you. You delight in pardoning grace. It is the honor of God to forgive. Let all my iniquities be canceled through the abundance of your rich mercy. In Jesus’ name I ask it. Amen.

This week the weather allowed the roofers to work on the large upper section. When the weather only allows them to work for a few hours, it takes much longer to apply the adhesive and lay the product down; we need more mild, sunny days to speed the process. The glass on the West and South side is coming along; they have most of the large sections in and continue to work on the details as they go. The warmer days last week allow the mason to finish the brick work and remove all of their tools. The other contractors have stayed busy inside in the cold putting up studs and adding pipes of all kinds.

MONDAY—EVANGELISTIC PRAYER

59 Days of Prayer: Dominican Republic Mission Team, Jan 29-Feb 11
Monday, January 25, 2010
Isaiah 63:7 I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.
Living Lord and Loving Savior:
Can I not do this, especially as I approach February? Are there no mercies I experienced that would let me go out this week with a testimony to __________ and __________? Even if I feel down in the dumps after the holidays, can I not remember what you have done with me, and testify of that to them?
Lord, snap the chains of some lost soul I know! Did you not come to set them free—free from sin and death and hell? Give me a precious milestone along the road by letting me lead someone to Christ! I know sick ones who need to be restored. I know poor ones who have needs to be supplied. I know some are in dire straits who need to be delivered. Help them rise up and follow the light you have already given them, and seek their soul’s salvation in Jesus Christ.
You have so often answered in my own time of need. Give me the words to be a witness of Christ and a witness to his cross, and also a testimony of your great loving-kindness. My lost relatives and friends need to know how much you love them. Maybe if I can put on display your choice mercies from yesterday, they will be emboldened to trust their heart to Jesus Christ today.
Oh Lord, it may seem dark to me now, but help me light the lamps that will tell others of your mercy. I want to glitter through the darkness by shining out your praises.
2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
Now help me offer it to others in Jesus’ stead. Amen.

TUESDAY— CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY

59 Days of Prayer: Missionaries in South America: Cruthers, Gills, Vogelins
Tuesday, January 26, 2010
Ephesians 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Lord and Savior, Heavenly Father:
We are yours; we belong to the family of Christ and we comprise this body of Christ. That makes us part of your household. We stand among the number of your children, because our names are written down in the covenant you made with Christ to save all who would believe in his name: Jesus (Savior).
Lord, we give ourselves up to you and choose Jesus for our eternal reward and our highest good. We see the insufficiency of all others to make us happy, so we take our mission to a higher hope. We behold Christ Jesus in his perfect righteousness and his all-sufficient grace. We put our trust in him and make our own covenant with the Father by the sacrifice of his Son. We draw near to you in your ordinance of baptism, and often through the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper. We ratify and confirm that holy covenant at the Lord’s table, as well as having been devoted to you by the initial ordinance of baptism. We give up our own cause and search for self-satisfaction, and through church membership, we sign-up as it were, with our own hands to be in the Lord’s army.
Lord, we consecrate ourselves now afresh to love you above all things
• To fear you (that means a hatred of evil and a move to obedience)
• To hope in you (that means sure certainty of your involvement)
• And to walk in your ways (that means ministry to others)
We will wait for your mercy unto eternal life, thanking you all our days. Give us opportunities today to be able to accomplish your Great Commission, for we ask it in Jesus’ name. Amen.

WEDNESDAY—REVIVAL PRAYING

59 Days of Prayer: Summit volunteers to help with Connections and Greeters
Wednesday, January 27, 2010
Ezekiel 35:10 Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there:
Lord, are you here?
Edom’s princes saw how Israel was left desolate, and counted on making an easy conquest. Unbeknownst to them one thing stood in their way: the LORD was there. In your presence there is security. In your presence is our revival.
Whatever may be the machinations and devices of the Devil today—at my work, in my family, and even over my ministry—there is still the only one barrier to thwart his plans: the LORD was there!
The saints are your heritage, and you will support my witness. What a comfort that assurance brings to me as I consider the trouble and spiritual conflict that flare-up whenever I try to explain the gospel. I am constantly opposed, but perpetually preserved!
Satan shoots his arrows against my faith because he knows it is the most potent weapon in my witnessing. Help me today to defy Hell and the power of his fiery darts. They are not only turned aside, but also quenched on my shield.
My ministry is the subject of Satan’s attack. Those things I do to earn the right to speak about my Lord Jesus are constantly assailed, and my motives questioned. I never yet tried to serve you but what I did not come under fire.
Help me by your Spirit to have a hope bright and sparkling, a love warm and fervent, a patience all-enduring, and a zeal flaming like coals of fire. By this means let me win someone to Christ because they have to say, the Lord is there!
When I start to witness I need to see, the Lord is here. When I endure trial I need to know, the Lord is here. Where the storm is its worst, the water highest, and the wind coldest, I stand upon the Rock for salvation. JEHOVAH SHAMMAH.

A DAILY PATTERN FOR PRAYER & BIBLE READING

59 Days of Prayer: Live Out Loud Project: Jewish Vocational Services
Thursday, January 28, 2010
2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
JESUS is coming to earth again; what if it were today?
Coming in power and love to reign; what if it were today?
Coming to claim His chosen Bride, all the redeemed and purified,
Over this whole earth scattered wide; what if it were today?

Satan’s dominion will then be o’er, O that it were today!
Sorrow and sighing shall be no more, O that it were today!
Then shall the dead in Christ arise, caught up to meet Him in the skies,
When shall these glories meet our eyes? What if it were today?

Faithful and true would He find us here if He should come today?
Watching in gladness and not in fear, if He should come today?
Signs of His coming multiply; morning light breaks in eastern sky.
Watch, for the time is drawing nigh; what if it were today?

Glory, glory! Joy to my heart ’twill bring.
Glory, glory! When we shall crown Him King.
Glory, glory! Haste to prepare the way;
Glory, glory! Jesus will come some day.

FRIDAY—FOCUS ON CHRIST’S LIFE

59 Days of Prayer: Church-wide Fall Bible Conference, Oct 3-6
Friday, January 29, 2010
Matthew 12:13-14 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other. Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
Holy Lord:
Your commands always get straight to the point. It is not, “Rub your right hand with your left.” Or, “Go perform a ceremony over your hand.” No, if the hand is withered then the command is to stretch it out. How often do I find you commanding me to do the very thing I feel I cannot do. You always go to the root of my unbelief, because as soon as I obey, I am healed!
You do not say to my lost friends, Go home and pray. When they say,
Acts 16:30 Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
The only effective answer goes right to the heart of the matter:
Acts 16:31 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
They may not even know what they are asking, but help me always give them the clearest answer. My lost friends do not need to go home and read the Bible per se—they need to stretch out their faith. The gospel is never preached unless I get around to this topic, for salvation comes by nothing short of faith.
That’s the hardest point Lord, as you know. Yes, and that’s why you want to use me to bring this command to believe. So in my own life, help me mix faith with every prayer, faith with every act of repentance. That is the only thing that makes my work acceptable to you. You demand faith in yourself and faith in your Son in order for people to be saved and me to be sanctified.
The Pharisees who look on the results of such faith will always be jealous. Give me grace to bear-up under their glare, knowing I am doing the work of Christ today on his behalf. Let me glorify Jesus! Amen.

SATURDAY—IN THE PSALMS

59 Days of Prayer: Focus Ministry: family, missionary, heart of fervent prayer
Saturday, January 30, 2010
Psalm 18:1 I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
O Lord, My Strength:
Many people are saved while discouraged and doubting, but David had such faith he could be born in adversity, fight while singing, and win the battle with a song still on his lips. Help me receive every fresh mercy with a heart grateful for mercies already enjoyed, and to anticipate new trials with confidence based on my past experience of your divine love.
I hope for the best, but sometimes I fear the worst. Satan knows how to hem-in my emotions. But faith increases through exercise. It is wise and discerns Christ in the terrible darkness and the threatening storm.
Psalm 18:27 For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks.
I desire a grace-given righteousness in the face of all my haters, because in your plan, uprightness and truth are sure to bring their own reward in the long run. Let me praise you for it even now. Help me keep the image of God so constantly in front of me that I become conformed to it! In every trial, in every temptation, the door of escape is as close as prayer. Because if my soul can contact you, will I not then be safe? Give me an inner love for righteousness as the motive for my integrity. Fill the fountain of my life with love for holiness, and then all the streams of my public walk will be pure and grace-filled.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
You first give me holiness, then you reward me for it! Make me a vessel of honor. This comforts me, because my present sorrow is not nearly as important as your eternal future for me. Help me trust your providence more, since it is truly Jesus’ hand that guides me. Amen.
